Dubai - The Burj Khalifa, known until recently as The Burj Dubai, was inaugurated with a spectacular opening ceremony in the United Arab Emirates. Built by Emaar Properties, the tower is now the tallest building in the world, standing over 2,715 feet high. Duravit, a leading manufacturer of innovative bathroom furnishings, celebrates the tower’s inclusion of a Duravit classic, the Starck 1 “barrel,” in this exceptional project.

Over the past 20 years, Duravit has pursued a consistent brand policy, and as such has achieved recognition as a leader in the design of highly functional, environmentally sensitive, and innovative bath designs. In collaborations with such high-profile names as Philippe Starck, Sieger Design and Lord Norman Foster, Duravit has developed bathroom and wellness products that stand out not only in their strength of design but also their value. According to Timothy Schroeder, President of Duravit USA, “Duravit is proud to offer a wide range of well-designed, highly-functional bathroom products that cover what we call the ‘jeans to dinner jacket’ segments.”

Philippe Starck designed the Starck 1 collection for Duravit 15 years ago, inspired by primal forms such as the bucket, and the old-fashioned hand pump and nail. Today, the entire range is regarded as a modern design classic, with the “barrel” serving as its outstanding focal point – and Duravit’s most successful individual furniture item.

Now part of this architectural landmark skyscraper, Duravit has delivered more than 1,000 barrels to Dubai, as well as almost 4,000 toilets and bidets and more than 1,600 baths and whirltubs. “We hope that our seamless dedication to this project and the A&D market, combined with our infinite commitment to design will continue to broaden project scopes and perhaps even lead to a few more towers,” said Schroeder.
